Why Strength Training Matters More as We Age

When we think about lifting weights, it’s easy to think about toned arms, stronger legs or changing how our body looks. But particularly for women over 40, strength training is about something much bigger: protecting the body we want to live in for decades to come.

At Ferocia Health & Fitness, we believe training shouldn’t just be about what you see in the mirror today. It should also be about what you want your life to look like at 60, 70 and beyond.

What happens to our muscles and bones as we age?

As we get older, we naturally begin to lose muscle mass and strength. Bone density can also decline, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures later in life.

For women, perimenopause and menopause make this particularly important. Falling oestrogen levels can contribute to accelerated bone loss, making looking after our bones and muscles an essential part of healthy ageing.

And this is where resistance training can become incredibly valuable.

Strength training isn’t just about building muscle

Regular resistance training gives your body a reason to maintain and build strength.

It can help to:

  • Support bone strength and density
  • Maintain and build muscle
  • Improve balance and stability
